Description
Siberian Husky Setby Diana Thorne
This
ORIGINAL BOOK PRINT
comes from a wonderful
1932
book illustrated by the noted dog artist
Diana Thorne.
Born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Diana Thorne left for Germany around 1912 to take formal art studies in Munich and Berlin. Unfortunately, the First World War began two years later and (being Canadian) Thorne was detained by the German government as a hostile alien. She managed, however, to escape to England where she supported herself as a reporter, librarian and writer. At this time she began her first experiments in both illustration and etching.
Diana Thorne moved to the United States in 1917. During the following years she became one of America’s most recognized canine artists. In total she illustrated (and often authored) children’s books dealing with dogs and animal life. During the 1920’s and early 1930’s Diana Thorne was also active as an original etcher.
These illustrations measures approximately
2" x 3"
each, and have been custom matted together in a
black "acid free" mat
, ready for your
5" x 7"
frame. Like any print of this age, there is some minor age toning which does not detract from the matted print.
This is a standard size mat that will fit into your standard size frame, no custom framing required
.
Your artwork is shipped flat between sturdy cardboard and comes protected against moisture with a plastic sleeve. It's then carefully packaged to prevent bending or damage during transit.

Bankrupt Stock Made in Japan
Description
Siberian Husky Ceramic Dog Statue,
10 inches long
large size.
This heavy duty dog statue made of solid ceramic, weighing about 1kg (35 oz), was slip cast and carefully hand-painted in yellow tipped liver brown with white underneath, which creates a nice
copper-red and white coat
.
To make it appear very lifelike, his striking blue eyes, shaggy fur coat and even the snout with whisker pores are meticulously sculpted.
This item is a bit vintage. It was intended to be exported, but remained unshipped in a Japanese ceramic factory. As the factory was already closed, it's been sitting on the shelf for several years in there.
It remains
in excellent condition
with no chips or cracks.

From Occupied Japan Era to the late '70s and early '80s, a large quantity of dog figurines was produced in Japan,
mostly in the city of Seto
, and exported worldwide under various brand names, such as Shafford, Napco or Lefton... Those manufacturers now no longer exist, but their remaining merchandise is still available in small quantities. This item is a good example of such liquidated inventory.

About My Store
My store provides
Japanese Seto-yaki porcelain figurines
. 'Seto-yaki', such as
this Husky figurine
, is a general term for porcelain products made in Seto Japan.
Seto is a city located in the center of Japan and also the center for Japan's ceramics industry.
From Occupied Japan Era to the late '70s, Seto-yaki items under various brand names used to be exported worldwide. However, as the ceramics industry has been declining year by year, many manufacturers have been forced to shut down their factories in the last few decades. Now there are still lots of vintage products and reproductions available from manufacturers/retailers out there. If you want to find treasure pieces in Japan, you're welcome to visit my ebay store at any time.
